Why John Carpenter’s THE THING Still Holds Up

Recently, I watched the 1951 movie, THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD. This was the first adaptation of John W. Campbell’s book WHO GOES THERE? And while I enjoyed the classic sci-fi movie aspect, the Cold War element, and the truly fabulous outfits from that era, it really didn’t grab me the way John Carpenter’s THE THING did and still does.
